Fire Door Installers in London and the Home Counties

Given the wide range of fire doors available, customers often ask which type of door they need to meet their fire safety obligations. Wanting a fire door installation certified by a trade expert is not as simple as hanging a high-quality fire door leaf. Getting it wrong could mean non-compliance with safety regulations.

Our accredited fire door installers provide peace of mind by explaining the type of door needed, their importance, and how fire doors work to save lives in the event of a fire. They issue a certificate of conformity on every fire door set they install.

We provide safety consultation and fire door installation services for residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

Installing a fire door leaf

Please note that if our fire door fitters are asked to fit a fire door leaf instead of a fire door set, the certificate of conformity they issue will only cover the door leaf. It will not cover the fire door set.

The installation of a fire door leaf is charged at our half-hourly rate of £47.50 + VAT (1-hour min.).

This could be an issue when recurring fire door inspections are done. Our fire door installers must always follow manufacturer install guidelines. Even though issues such as gaps between the door and frame can usually be resolved, an inspection is still likely to show non-compliance if the door frame manufacturer is unknown.

If a customer is legally obliged to comply with fire safety regulations, we strongly recommend installing fire door sets rather than fire door leaves. It might help avoid future door maintenance work.

Bespoke fire door installation

Fire door sets are manufactured and tested to slow the spread of fire and smoke through a building. Rigorous testing of an accredited fire door is done on all parts according to British Standard (BS 476), including the door frame, hinges, all ironmongery, and smoke seals.

Fire resistance of fire-rated doors

  • FD30 fire doors; withstand the passage of fire for 30 minutes (a minimum requirement in commercial and residential buildings)
  • FD60 fire doors; withstand the passage of fire for 60 minutes
  • FD90 fire doors; withstand the passage of fire for 90 minutes
  • FD120 fire doors; withstand the passage of fire for 120 minutes
  • FD240 fire doors; withstand the passage of fire for 240 minutes

NB: Fire-rated door sets with an “S” indicate they can stop the spread of smoke, e.g. FD60S. They are fitted with smoke brushes and threshold or drop seals.

If standard-size door sets aren’t possible, we can order and fit bespoke-built door sets from accurate measurements.

Manufacturer guidelines are carefully followed to ensure the installation complies with the testing requirement for which the door is rated.
