Frequently asked questions

How much for an electrician to install a power shower?

The installation of a power shower requires the skills of an electrician and a plumber. A dedicated electrical circuit is required to comply with Building Regulations. This is because the installation is for a “wet zone”. The work must be certified and registered by a qualified electrician.

If a dedicated circuit is already in place, allow between 1 and 2 hours. If a new circuit is required from the consumer unit (fuse box), the time required depends on the distance between the consumer unit and the shower, as well as the ease of running the cabling behind walls, floors, or ceilings.

To replace an existing shower with a new unit, a plumber would need between 3 and 4 hours. Again, if new hot and cold water supply pipes need to be fitted, the work could take up to a day.

Please contact our Customer Service team if you would like to arrange a visit for an estimate.

How often should you replace a shower?

There is usually no need to replace a shower unless it is experiencing problems. Our plumbers suggest that showers in a residential property should last for more than 10 years unless they are used heavily.

Limescale build-up is a common reason for showers to break and need repair. Therefore, showers in areas with hard water will need replacement sooner than those in areas with softer water. If you live in a hard water area, installing a water conditioner or water softener can help prolong the lifespan of your plumbing fixtures.

Low water pressure, water temperature issues, operational problems, and leaks are all signs that a shower may need to be replaced.

How much does it cost to remove a bath and replace it with a shower?

The cost of removing a bath from a bathroom and replacing it with a walk-in shower depends on several factors.

  1. Size and style of the shower base, screen, or door
  2. Type of shower unit being installed (mixer, power, digital)
  3. Style of tiling and the area being tiled
  4. Labour for removal, plumbing work, installation, and tiling
  5. Parts and materials for the installation

Our shower fitters can be booked to provide a fixed-price estimate for the labour, parts and materials for a bath removal and shower replacement.

They can offer expert recommendations for showers, tiles, and bases tailored to a wide range of budgets.
