Groundwork is usually needed to install electric cabling. You may not need groundwork if the lights are installed on external walls or an outdoor socket already exists.
Our electricians use steel wire armoured (SWA) cable for outdoor electrical installations. SWA cable resists mechanical damage, moisture, and corrosion, and electricians bury it in a trench at a depth of around 50 cm.
SWA cable is suitable for all types of outdoor power supply, including outdoor sockets, lighting, and garden rooms.
Our gardening and landscaping team can assist with the groundwork needed prior to the installation. They can lift paving slabs, blockwork, or decking as part of the process.
When the garden lighting installation project is complete, the team will finish your outdoor space in the way you want it.
We install security lights and floodlights on the exterior walls of buildings as reactive attendances. We charge our electricians’ time in half-hour increments, with a minimum of one hour.
Our electricians can usually run wall-mounted lighting from an existing ring circuit. This negates the need for changes to the consumer unit or groundwork for SWA cabling.
For garden lighting installations that require a dedicated circuit, you can book an estimate visit. Our electrician will assess the work and give you a fixed price, including groundwork and landscaping if needed.

Outdoor electrics and garden lighting projects usually require a dedicated circuit with suitable RCD protection. Our electrician can quickly identify whether one exists.
If there is not an existing dedicated electrical circuit, we will need to install one.
We can add a new circuit to your consumer unit if there is space on it. If not, you will need to consider replacing the consumer unit with one with more circuits.
For new circuits and consumer unit replacements, our experts will issue an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC). We will register the installation to comply with electrical safety regulations (BS 7671).
